Randonnée à la découverte des chimpanzés en Tanzanie

Chimpanzee trekking in Western Tanzania

Presentation

Chimpanzee trekking in the mountains of Western Tanzania is an uncommon experience.

At Mahale and Gombe National Parks, probably the best locations in the world to discover the chimpanzees in the wild, you will have the opportunity to approach these mammals so close to us, and observe their behaviour and body language.

Climbing through the forest to find them creates high suspense as the screams echo from the treetops. Suddenly they are there, all around you, playing, fighting, eating and acting like if you don’t exist.

Chimpanzees have stocky bodies with long arms, short legs, and no tail. They are covered in black hair and have bare faces, ears, fingers and toes. They live in groups of 30 to 80 individuals and build their nests in trees. Guides usually know the characteristics and relationships of the different individuals.

Visit is limited to one chimp trek per day, one hour only being spent with the chimps, and a maximum of 6 people per group. Children under 12 (Mahale), 15 (Gombe) are not allowed.
