Fanjove Island is an idyllic tropical destination located about 30 kilometers from the Tanzanian coast in the Indian Ocean. It is part of the Songo Songo archipelago, 140 km South of Dar es Salaam.
In addition to its white sand beaches, turquoise waters, coconut trees and enormous coconut crabs, there is also a 19th century lighthouse erected by the Germans, as well as vast and varied coral reefs, ideal for diving.
Diving is the flagship activity of the island, with magnificent and still little explored seabed, offering visibility of 20 meters or more.
It is also an ecologically important area for the nesting of sea turtles (the hatching of sea turtle eggs takes place between April and July) and seabirds.
From Fanjove Island, you can also observe marine animals such as spinner dolphins and bottlenose dolphins. Humpback whales can be seen between May and September.
The island itself is home to a population of coconut crabs and numerous hermit crabs. Migratory birds are also present here.
Finally, you can also have a superb sunset dhow cruise, explore the island by kayak or SUP, spend the day on the beach, or just relax and forget everything.
Indian Ocean temperatures vary between 26 and 29 °C all year round.
